    Folkwear - Walking Skirt

Our gored Walking Skirt is smoothly fitted in front and flares from a narrow waistband to street or full length. Our original is made of linen and decorated with cutwork embroidery, also known as Broderie Anglaise. Even though the Victorian bustle was pass by this time, the voluptuous s-curve shape was still desirable, so tiny gathers below the back waist provided the fullness that gives this characteristic shape. The skirt is finished with a button placket at center back.

A typical design motif of the time is included, along with instructions for optional cutwork embroidery.

As the Victorian age drew to a close at the beginning of the 20th century and the Edwardian age dawned, women entered the arenas of sports and the professions. This was the skirt they wore, because it was comfortable and yet unencumbered by bustles and hoops. Full-length or street-length, with five gores. Pattern includes instructions for decorative cutwork embroidery (Broderie Anglaise).
Suggested fabrics: Medium to heavyweight cottons and blends, linen, silk, lightweight wool, thin wale corduroy, or velvet.

    Misses 6-16.
