Whether you are diving into your very first corset or working from a pattern with flexible requirements, our Universal Corset Kit gives you everything you need to build a well-structured, properly finished corset from start to finish. This kit is intentionally designed to work with any corset pattern - so if you are not yet sure what size you will be making, or simply want a reliable all-in-one supply set, this is the right choice. It works especially well with Ageless Patterns or other historical reproduction patterns that may not include a specific supply list or that suggest creating a mock-up to perfect the fit before cutting into your fashion fabric.

Even if your chosen pattern calls for a different boning type or does not specifically list bone casing, a busk, or grommets as requirements, every component in this kit is standard to corset construction and will work just fine alongside any approach.

Usage & Application

• Cut the spiral steel boning to your required bone lengths using the included boning cutter - no additional tools needed for cutting
• Cap each cut end with the included 1/4" bone tips for a clean finish. Use needlenose pliers (sold separately) to tighten the caps on the boning ends.
• Sew the 1/2" bone casing onto your corset panels where desired making sure to allow an adequate width to accommodate the boning. Push the cut bones through the channels making sure to leave space at each end to allow for top and botton binding.
• Use the Corsetmaker's Awl to slightly spread the fabric fibers to accommodate the busk posts, or spread even wider to insert grommets for setting.
• Set the corset busk at the center front following your pattern's busk instructions
• Thread the included 5-yard corset lace through the finished grommets to complete the back closure
• Use the twill tape to reinforce the waist line of the corset

Pro Tip: The 10-yard boning roll gives you flexibility to plan your bone lengths before cutting. Lay out your pattern pieces, measure each boning channel, and mark your cut points before cutting - this minimizes waste and ensures every bone is the right length on the first cut. Remember to leave about 1/2" at each edge to allow for bindiing at at top and bottom.

Pro Tip #2: If you are making a mock-up first, use your muslin to finalize bone lengths before setting anything in your fashion fabric. Some components like the casing and bones can be removed from the mockup and be adjusted for use on your finished corset. The kit includes enough to cover both a fitting mock-up and your finished corset in most standard builds.
