Shipping Concerns

Throughout the years many people have asked why we do not offer shipping options lower than Priority Mail, or why we can’t just send some of our smaller items in a plain letter envelope.  Well, the answer is for the benefit of our customers!

First, Priority Mail and Express Mail (which we offer if needed) are the most reliable options the US Postal Service offers. We have tried other services and found that orders too frequently ended up being delayed, lost or even “destroyed.”  As for letter envelopes, letters are processed differently than packages.  Letters can easily be hooked or snagged by the sorting machines if the envelope has anything lumpy in it.  This has the potential to not only  damage the item you are sending, but also the surrounding mail that was packaged properly.

We want you to receive every single item that you ordered.  We want your package to arrive not only in a timely manner but also in the same perfect condition that it left our hands in. We have recently been able to lower both our shipping prices and our order minimum to help you keep your costs as low as possible.

Below is an example of a recent exchange that we “almost” received.   The items were sent back in a standard letter envelope, and unfortunately none of them actually made it.

    Thank you for this post!!! Working with my own customers they don’t get why I won’t ship ANYTHING without a tracking number and some accountability to the Courier! I can’t wait to order my 1st batch of supplies from you all.

    I think that what you said made a bunch of sense. But, consider this, what if you added a little content?
    I ain’t suggesting your content isn’t solid., however what if
    you added a headline that grabbed a person’s attention?

    I mean Shipping Concerns | Of Corset Fits? is a little plain.
    You should look at Yahoo’s front page and watch how they create post
    titles to get viewers to open the links. You might try
    adding a video or a related pic or two to get readers interested about everything’ve got to say.
    In my opinion, it could make your blog a little livelier.

      You are absolutely correct. I have been completely slacking on the posts. Unfortunately I was too busy with the orders and finding new things for the site that the blog because severely neglected which is not ok. I am currently working on fixing that and I will certainly be posting much more now and I absolutely appreciate you pointing that out to me.

    I appreciate this explaination since I’m so taken aback by the tremendous cost of postage on a few packets of rings & sliders I’d like to order. HOWEVER, I do think it’s a bit of a cop-out and let me explain why.

    I’ve been shipping numerous (well over 900) small (fragile, they’re predominately ceramic) parcels for more than 5 years using USPS First Class Mail. I’ve never had a single parcel get lost or arrive damaged. The KEY is proper packing — I use a bubble envelope (and would NEVER put something three dimensional into a letter envelope — that’s just silly!) and protect/pad the item in a couple layers of bubble wrap before sliding it into the bubble mailer. Postage is rarely more than $3 – $4, with the overwhelming majority of parcels falling into the low end of that range. It is important to me to offer my customers a safe and low cost shipping option — it’s often the thing that makes the difference between someone purchasing or not purchasing. Plus, saving the buyer shipping costs just really great customer service.

    I wish your company would consider doing something similar with small lightweight orders.

      As we have been in business for over fifteen years we have found that that service just does not work for us. Yes, I am positive that it can work for many other people without fail like yourself, but unfortunately from what we have found that is not the case here. However, we do state in our shipping FAQs:
      Other shipping methods may be requested if necessary, additional charges may apply. The shipping charge will be added to your merchandise total and charged after your order has been pulled, boxed and weighed. Orders are usually shipped within 3 business days (our offices are closed on Saturdays and Sundays).
      We are not unreasonable or at least we definitely try not to be, I am more than happy to try to ship within flat rate envelopes and boxes when it is requested and especially if the product fits.
      We do not have them listed in the shipping options as not everything fits into those. With some orders it just isn’t possible, although many times it is. You can certainly shoot me over an email with your shipping address and can get all of the rates for you. Typically with that I ask customers to place the order as an in-store pick up and we charge the shipping separately. Hopefully this would help you out as well.     I thought I might add to what I said in my comment from a few days ago regarding shipping costs. Have you considered offering USPS Flat Rate Priority Boxes shipping options? The stuff I want to order (rings and sliders) should fit with room to spare into a small flat rate box (which ships for $5.80) — when I calculated the cost of shipping in your shopping cart, it gave me a USPS Priority rate of $21.00 for my order. Frankly, I’d rather spend the $15 difference on more product, rather than shipping. Besides, that’s just crazy expensive shipping for a few ounces of product. For larger orders, there are lots of sizes of flat rate (the boxes are free, as you undoubtedly know) boxes that could offer lower rates to customers.
