January 2008: Corsets for a Cure

Delicious Corsets presents:

“CORSETS FOR A CURE” TO RAISE FUNDS FOR LOCAL BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION

Artist-Designed Garments Uplift

Philadelphia, PA, January 14, 2008 — A fundraiser on February 1, 2008
for the Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation will feature the kickoff
of an online auction of 18 unique corsets handmade by artists and
designers. The event will be held from 7 -10 pm at the Tower
Investments offices at 969 N 2nd Street, Philadelphia PA. It is free
and open to the public.

Delicious Corsets of Northern Liberties donated 18 garments to local
and national artists as blank canvases on which to express the
artists’ thoughts on breast cancer, women’s bodies, and the courage of
cancer survivors. The exquisite custom designs include, “Let’s Put
Philly on the Map,” featuring a 19th century map of Philadelphia, and
“I Dreamed I Was Frida Kahlo in My Delicious Corset,” inspired by the
Mexican artist.

A preview showcasing eight of the garments will be on display for the
month of January in the windows of The Art Institute of Philadelphia
at 1610 Chestnut Street in Center City.

Amy McConnell, co-owner of Delicious Corsets and the event organizer,
was inspired by the courage of her friend Andrea Collins-Smith, a
38-year-old mother of six recently diagnosed with stage 4 inflammatory
breast cancer (IBC). “When Andrea was diagnosed, I felt the need to
act,” said McConnell. “With the help of these truly talented and
generous artists the Delicious Corsets family can raise money and
awareness of this disease.”

Bidding for the corsets will be open online throughout the month of
February at www.corsetsforacure.com, concluding on February 29th,
2008. Funds from the sale of the garments will benefit the Linda
Creed Breast Cancer Foundation, a Philadelphia non-profit organization
specializing in breast cancer education, early detection and support.

The fundraiser on February 1st will feature the sounds of DJ Glitz and
a performance by the Bawdy Girls, and is co-sponsored by P.I.N.K.
Vodka, Triumph Brewing Company, and Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer. A raffle
will be conducted at the opening reception to directly benefit the
family of Andrea Collins-Smith.
