Our German Plastic Boning - 12mm x 1.5mm is a premium plastic boning, also known as synthetic whalebone or plastic whalebone. At approximately 1/2" wide and 1.5mm thick, this is the widest and most substantial option in our German Plastic Boning range. It offers smooth, flexible support that is lighter than steel and easy to work with, while delivering noticeably more structure than the thinner 1mm gauge options. More rigid than Rigilene plastic boning, it holds its shape reliably while still allowing the natural movement needed for comfortable wear.

This boning can be cut with sturdy scissors and the cut edge finished with a nail file - no specialty tools required. It is safe to dry clean or machine wash; air dry only.

Pro Tip: Because plastic boning can be finished with a nail file rather than bone tips, it is a particularly low-prep option for high-volume projects or garments with many short boning channels. Cut all your bones to length, file the edges, and slide them straight into the casing.
